NEETS Junk-a-Thon To Feature “Ladies Race”

The classic NEETS Holiday Stock Car Series will be back in action with the Labor Day “Junk-a-Thon” on Monday, September 3rd at Mahoning Speedway in Lehighton, Pa. The fifth points race of the season will feature three divisions and spectators will witness a total of 270 green flag laps of enduro action.

All drivers in the Unique Golf four cyl. division will be chasing Don Rogers and Brian Kunkel. Both drivers are tied for the points lead with Neil Kunkel only four points out of the top spot. The drivers will battle it out with a 100-lap event.

Only ten points separate Phil Lomonaco from Richard Petey in the 6/8 cyl. division. Sixteen markers behind sits Tim Pauch, a former veteran Flemington Speedway enduro racer. As well, these “big car” drivers will trade paint for 100 circuits.

The Custom Classic TRUX are also on the card for a 50-lap show. Richard Petey leads Erin Bartley by sixty points in the championship standings, but Jeff Gregor is only six points out of second.

After moving to the Lehighton ¼ mile speedway, NEETS general manager, Joe Cutri expected a decline in racers, “We figured it would be tough at first, but car counts are picking up”, he said. “Hopefully this race will gain more momentum as we head into the next few events and the ’08 season”.

A special “ladies race” will drop the curtain on the afternoon. The event is open to all females who wish to participate and there is no registration fee. The winner will receive a trophy and bragging rights for the upcoming NEETS Fem-Duro in September. All female drivers will be required to purchase the $25 pit pass for the day.

All the action kicks off Monday, September 3rd at 2:00 PM. All NEETS series races are held rain or shine, so don’t be fooled by Mother Nature.

Grandstand admission is just $8. Pit gates open at 10:30 AM, and registrations open at 11:00 AM.
